Tricks to Feel Better Instantly

Posted: August 29, 2011 in Well-Being

Here are a few things I do to trick myself into feeling better instantly, when I’m in a funk.

  1. Exercise.  It may be hard to get motivated, but you just gotta force yourself to do it.  The endorphins you release and the adrenaline you create will immediately start to make you feel better and give you a pick up.  Plus all the other benefits, like getting in shape, will make you feel awesome. Here are some great exercises to you get started: Exercise Plans.  Downside, you may spend a long time in front of the mirror.
  2. Do Something Nice for Someone.  Do something, anything nice for somebody.  Even if it’s just complimenting their T-shirt.  Most people love to hear compliments.  It’s only natural to wanna hear somebody say something nice about them.  When you do this you will more than likely catch that ever infectious smile syndrome and probably hear a compliment back. Maybe it will be something you never heard about yourself before.  Roll with it, feel good.  Downside, you may catch an ass-bag that maybe has had a bad day, don’t let this discourage you try someone else.
  3. Meditate.  I know what you’re probably thinking and I’m hesitant to even suggest, but only because most people don’t really understand what it means to meditate.  First of all, you do not have to be a Buddhist or a zen monk sitting cross-legged on top of a mountain.  All you have to be is just that, be.
Excerpt from psychologytoday.com:
…meditation helps people change by teaching them to be inside their experience and simultaneously outside, watching it with perspective. By being in the moment without feeling overcome by emotion, people can become adept at seeing themselves repeat patterns. Then, while acknowledging and experiencing an old pattern, they can choose to respond differently. It’s in this way that meditation frees people to make the personal changes they so desire.
